About this work
Dreaming for the Future is a modular ceramic installation centred on the notions of home, displacement, and the ongoing act of rebuilding. Composed of slip-cast ceramic bricks, the work draws on the artist's childhood memories of wooden blocks and the play she now shares with her children, translating play into a material language of care, continuity, and responsibility.
Developed following the artist's displacement from Ukraine in 2022, the project carries traces of rupture alongside gestures of renewal. The bricks are reconfigurable, allowing each installation to respond to spatial conditions while retaining a consistent material vocabulary. This flexibility reflects the unstable and evolving nature of home, shaped by movement, loss, and adaptation rather than permanence.
Through repetition, modularity, and labour-intensive making, Dreaming for the Future proposes rebuilding not as a singular outcome but as an ongoing process. The work foregrounds childhood as a site of protection and possibility, positioning care, play, and shared construction as foundations for imagining future forms of dwelling and collective continuity.
