About this work
Fragmented Memories I is a mixed-media sculpture reflecting on the destruction of a private home in Irpin, near Kyiv, following Russian military shelling during the occupation of the city in 2022. The work translates a specific act of violence against civilian space into a material record of rupture, loss, and displacement.
A burned photograph mounted on scorched and torn paper documents the remains of the house, its fragmented edges bearing direct traces of military damage. Found objects – including fragments of porcelain dolls and personal belongings – function as sculptural witnesses to lives abruptly interrupted. Barbed wire and metal hooks introduce tension, restraint, and exposure, reinforcing the sense of vulnerability imposed on domestic life during war. Soil collected from Irpin and encased in resin preserves the physical memory of place, suspending what has been destroyed within a fragile yet enduring surface.
