2025 · Found objects, photograph, torn and charred paper, metal iron-rich local soil encased in resin, barbed wire · W60 × H80 × D6 cm
About this work
Fragmented Memories II is a mixed-media sculpture focusing on Kryvyi Rih and its landscapes, where a Russian missile strike destroyed residential buildings during 2022-2024. The work addresses the erasure of everyday domestic environments through direct military violence and the sudden interruption of civilian life.
A burned and fragmented photograph set against charred paper records the loss of ordinary living spaces. Recovered children's toys and household items operate as material remnants of interrupted lives, while barbed wire and metal hooks emphasize restriction, force, and exposure. Iron-rich red soil from Kryvyi Rih's mining region, encased in resin, becomes a central sculptural element. Its colour references both the geological identity of the land and the violence inflicted upon it, positioning the earth itself as a bearer of trauma, memory, and endurance.
